One Year More
Suit, Corrupt, Evil, Farscape
Finally, I have one year more of school. This last week's been sort of frantic for me: I've had 10 tests in various classes, including the AP Biology Test (4 essays in 1.5 hours = bleh). There were two proctors for the test: one of them had a constant cough, and the other seemed to have an overactive digestive system. I received my STA II Subject test results, and I got an 800/800 on the Biology section, and a 790/800 in US History.

For the first time in a few months, I played a video game. I just got Thief 3: Deadly Shadows, and it's pretty awesome. I'm going to get Assassin's Creed for PC soon, and I'll have to pick up Mass Effect as well.

On Wednesday, I'm going to New York for a vacation and to look at Cornell University. I'll post more then.

Oh, from now on, everything is friends only.

Special ISEF awards, scholarship
Suit, Corrupt, Evil, Farscape
The ISEF Special Awards Ceremony was today. It was incredibly long and painful, lasting from 7-10:30 at night (and I hadn't eaten dinner yet). On the bright note, I did win one award: $12,500 a year scholarship to the Florida Institute of Technology. I hadn't really considered FIT beforehand, but my dad got his Masters Degree there, and my Godparents live an hour away from it. Plus, it's only 50 minutes from Kennedy Space center. I'll definitely have to check it out.

The Grand (Category) Award Ceremony is tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a Third or Fourth place in Animal science. The nice thing about science fair at this level is that it pays. $500 for Fourth, $1000 for Third, and there are several Thirds and Fourths in each category. I'm not going to go into how much Firsts and Seconds give. So, hopefully, I'll come home tomorrow a little richer.

Soda, the news

Wow. It's been one year to the day since I've had a soft drink. It was at a Subway in Albuquerque. I think that it's somehow fitting that the ISEF social tonight is being held at the World of Coca-Cola. Maybe I'll break the habit, just once.

Also, I've just found out that WLOX wants to interview me about my project. At 6:30 on Thursday, I have to be at my project for a live video interview. AT 6:30! Why can't they just film it (at a more reasonable hour), cut out all the bad parts, and show it later? Also, they never mentioned if it was 6:30 Eastern of Central time (that would be nice to know).

I also just found out that I've got to do a project on Political Correctness and email it to a group member by the end of the day (as an added bonus, he forgot to give me his email). Aren't things fun.

Judging is tomorrow. At the Opening Ceremony last night, they had a 30 piece drumline give a performance, and the grandson of Jacques Cousteau was the keynote speaker. The governor of Georgia came by to watch as well.

If any of you care, there's ISEF videos here:

No, that's not a rickroll.

Speaking of rickrolls, there was karaoke at the Thursday social last year. If they do that again, I think a rickroll will be in order.

EDIT: so, at 5:45 Central time, I will be live on WLOX. If you're up that early, please tune in.

ISEF, other stuff

So, I'm having a nice time at the International Science and Engineering Fair, in Atlanta. I've got my project set up, cleared any violations, and things are going nicely. We're staying in the Omni Hotel, at the CNN center, and the convention center is right next door. All of the other projects are looking really good, so I'm a little worried about the competition. I had forgotten how amazing ISEF is. I'll post more as more comes up.

Last Thursday was my birthday, and I got 2 books and a 500 GB hard drive. I took the AP US History test on Friday. Not the most pleasant thing in the world, but the multiple choice portion was okay, and two of the essays were reasonable. I wasn't happy with the DBQ, however.

I get back late on Friday night. It's sort of strange that I'll never see most of you at school ever again.

Bad Allergies, Drum Major Tryouts
Suit, Corrupt, Evil, Farscape
I know I haven't updated this very recently.  I really need to work on that.

So, for the past week, I've been having really bad allergies.  Runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, hacking cough, red eyes, etc.  I've been put on about 4 different kinds of drugs, and most of the symptoms are bearable (although they makes everyone around me nervous).  Except the cough.  Because of the constant hacking, I've lost my voice.

I have Drum Major tryouts tomorrow, and 25% of the score is based on vocal commands.

There has never been a Drum Major who failed to make it for their second year before, and I really don't want to become the first, especially if it's due to allergies.

It doesn't help that Joe-man wasn't very pleased with our performance last year (maybe because nobody told us what to do...?)

Eee Pc + xkcd = epic

I NEED to try this.

NY Mets Rickrolled
Suit, Corrupt, Evil, Farscape
As many of you might already know, the NY Mets were holding a vote for a new 8th inning song, and they included a write in option.

"Never Gonna Give You Up," by Rick Astley, also known as the Rick Roll Song, won the write in. (Article)

Unfortunately, Major League Baseball recognized it as a prank, and decided to take a different course of action. (Article 1) (Article 2)

Science Fair, Prom

Well, It's been a few weeks since I last posted, so I guess I should probably write something about what's happened over the last few weeks.

State Science Fair

On Thursday and Friday, I was at the State Science Fair at Ole Miss.  I wasn't particularly thrilled about it, but I decided to do it anyway.  Somehow, I managed to beat everyone else there and win the Best in Fair award, as well as the Naval Research Award and First Place in Zoology.  I got this really cool Silver Plate for it.

On Saturday/Sunday Morning, there was Prom.  I believe that Cheshil has already managed to describe it's awesomeness in full.  Somehow, I found myself up on stage, dancing with about 20 drunk people.  Around that time, someone knocked half of the decorations over, and everyone that was sober got off rather quickly.  After 2/3 of the people left, the dance got really fun, and they started playing real music.  It was pretty sweet.  I left around 11, went home, got changed, and went to Blake's party, where I stayed until six.

SAT Scores
Suit, Corrupt, Evil, Farscape
I got my SAT scores back today.  I did great!  Here's my scores by category (Maximum 800 per category):

Critical Reading: 800
Mathematics:  710
Writing: 680

Now maybe I'll have a chance of getting into Davidson.
